Author Focus | Alison Weihe author of Belonging

When you meet Alison, it is easy to fall into the temptation of packaging who she is based on the setting you first meet her in. You could see her as a high level businesswoman, an identity intelligence coach, or, as some people have named her, Mamma Gold.

However, there is so much more to Alison than that warm and friendly person we often see at PSASA meetings. Behind those soulful blue eyes lies a series of memories that have shaped the woman she has become today. Eyes that have witnessed and fought against the dehumanisation of so many of our fellow South Africans. She is not a face you would have seen on posters, but rather quietly playing her part in building a democracy far behind the visibility of some of the most prominent people our country now calls heroes.

I never knew that Alison was an activist, that she struggled with her identity or that she had her car petrol bombed. On the Write Learn and Earn show, I had a heartfelt conversation with Alison Weihe about her book Belonging. We discussed topics like mental health, motherhood, family sacrifices, and business betrayal.

As you watch the show, you will see why I feel so deeply invested in this book. Through it, I have peeled back the layers of some of my identity challenges and I feel blessed to have been part of her remarkable journey.
